Parks & Recreation

Sunset.gif (25794 bytes)
With 22 miles of shoreline along Irondequoit Bay and Lake Ontario, recreational opportunities abound. Five major town parks contain 275 acres of parkland and offer unlimited access for swimming, fishing, boating, biking, winter skiing, walking, jogging and outdoor sports. All play fields and picnic shelters, with the exception of those located at the North Ponds Park, may be reserved free of charge. NOTE: A carry in/out policy is adhered to throughout the entire town park system. All patrons are asked to collect garbage and dispose of it off site. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed in parks or parking areas.

The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department provides leisure opportunities to all Webster residents from preschoolers through our senior population. Enrollment for youth programs is extended to Webster Central School District residents. Our programs are designed to stimulate, promote personal fitness, offer social interactions, and provide good clean fun for all residents. Our program guide, the WEB, is mailed to Webster residents seasonally in May, September and January. Check out the programs and register for what suits your leisure needs.

In addition to offering broad-based leisure pursuits, Parks and Recreation is committed to enriching lives and providing support to families during these changing times. We hope to provide opportunities for residents to enhance all areas of their lives. Enrichment activities will be provided for families, parents, children and teens. Opportunities to develop techniques which will augment parenting, studying, coping and problem-solving skills, as well as advocating for children and adults are also offered.

The Center for Youth Services is located at 985 Ebner Road. The center provides individual and family counseling, educational workshops and emergency shelter for youths. Phone 585-217-9050 Fax 585-217-9052, 24 hour crisis phone line is 585-271-7670.

The Department provides services for senior citizens 60 and over and their spouse of any age, including a noon (nutritious) meal five days a week. Caseworkers and social workers help with filling out health forms. Monthly, a dietitian gives talks on nutrition news and health screening that includes mammograms, blood pressure checks, glaucoma testing and flu shots.

Recreation abounds in many forms-exercise classes, crafts, trips, bell choir, mixed choir, lectures, and defensive driving classes. Transportation is provided daily from home to the center; grocery shopping Monday and Friday; mall shopping every third Wednesday.

Five major parks (North Ponds, Empire, Kent, Ridge and Ridgecrest), encompassing 275 acres of land, are located throughout the Town.
